Price the water that actually reaches storage
A low quoted load price can become expensive when minimums, mileage, hose fees, taxes or overflow are included. Compare the full invoice with gallons that physically fit in the tank.
effective cost per 1,000 stored gallons = total quote ÷ usable stored gallons × 1,000
Confirm whether the quote includes potable water, transport, unloading time, waiting time, taxes and any surcharge for difficult access.
Use measured demand to set order timing
EPA reports that the average American uses about 82 gallons per day at home, but delivery-dependent households can differ substantially. Use tank-level records or meter readings instead of assuming a national average.
Keep an operational reserve and order early enough for weather, road access, supplier lead times and seasonal demand. The calculator does not check supplier availability or water quality.
Sources and boundaries
Use the supplier's written quote, tank data, vehicle labels and local health requirements. This calculator does not certify potable quality, tank sanitation, vehicle loading or access conditions.
